Impact25: A Reflection

I really enjoyed co-creating this project. Working with Kate was a blast - we had a great time brainstorming and creating the final piece. The most stressful part was waiting for responses to come in, but once we extended the project to include people outside of the TC community some of the pressure was relieved. We didn't end up reaching the full 25 responses until this past week, so we didn't get to work on the sound pieces until then. However, once we received all of the files everything fell into place. It was so exciting to hear what people chose as well as each person's personal connection to their clip.

Kate and I wanted this piece to be largely guided by our responses. While the initial idea was ours, the outcome was entirely dependent on what people submitted. I had no idea what it would sound like until it was done, and that was very exciting. I used Ableton, a DAW used mostly by electronic music producers, and had fun approaching the interface in a different way. In the past I've mostly recorded and produced songs with more traditional structures, so using the software in this more freeform, creative way was a welcome challenge. I'm excited to send the piece out to our participants and see their reactions to hearing their sounds in the greater soundscape!

The final product:
