2D Design in the Classroom
2D design principles are everywhere - street signs, candy wrappers, advertisements, and this blog post. Here are a couple of ways that we can introduce design thinking into the classroom.
1. Have students bring in their favorite snack wrapper, graphic t-shirt, or book. Discuss how line, color, and shape are used in each item and have students use one of these observations to make their own work.
2. Introduce a collage project with a limited number of colors and shapes. Have students recreate one of their own artworks through collage.
3. Teach students the basic elements of Adobe Illustrator. Have them create a work combining an image from life and vector shapes to produce a surreal artwork.
