Video Project - Dance With Me
While I have some experience with video editing, I had never put this much thought and effort into a project. I used Adobe Premiere Pro, so I had to navigate a relatively complex platform that I was unfamiliar with. However, with some exploration and a few google searches, the software provided more intricacy in editing than a software such as iMovie. My favorite TV show of all time is Twin Peaks, a surrealist drama primarily written and directed by David Lynch and Mark Frost in the 90s. I decided to use a scene from the Red Room - an otherworldly space where characters exist in reverse and strange things happen. It was a fun challenge to speak backwards and attempt to create a Lynchian atmosphere through use of long and silent shots, strange pacing, and sparse dialogue. This project took much longer to edit than to film, especially in capturing and sequencing stills in the "dance" scene.
Wow, the level of detail here is insane with your video. I keep finding new things to look at! And the way you spoke backwards effortlessly, perfection.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeleteThis stop-motion video truly lives rent-free in my head. It’s clear how much time and effort you put into this assignment, and your ability to speak backwards is incredibly impressive. I can only imagine how much work this took, but if you were interested in extending the project, I would love to see more stop-motion pieces inspired by Twin Peaks—especially those that capture its blend of beauty and captivating weirdness
When I watched the original film, I honestly had a hard time understanding what was going on. But your version was much easier to follow and felt more clear to me. It also felt very modern and slightly surreal, but at the same time, it made me think it could almost be part of everyday life.
ReplyDeleteIt actually reminded me a bit of the movie Air Doll, so I thought I’d recommend it since it has a similar kind of feeling.
This is my favorite project. Starting from your reference film till the final video editing, It shows a whole new video experience to me. I love all the sentences and scenes, also your video editing skills.
