Introduction

My name is Jane Lillard and I’m a first year student in the MA Init Art and Art Education program. I’m from Princeton, NJ and graduated from Wesleyan University with a double major in Art Studio and Psychology in May 2025 and dove right into grad school here at TC in the fall. My studio concentration at Wesleyan was printmaking—I completed a thesis in monotype but enjoy many techniques such as screenprinting, lithography, and more. I also enjoy oil painting and drawing and have experience with 3D materials such as clay, wood, plaster, and metal. I am familiar with Adobe softwares such as Photoshop and Illustrator and occasionally use Procreate on my iPad to create digital art, but I typically work with traditional mediums.

While I have not taught full time, I have a variety of experiences working with children and teens. This past summer I worked at a K-12 school for autistic individuals, and additionally, I ran an art camp at the Arts Council of Princeton for elementary schoolers. I hope to eventually be an art teacher in a public elementary school but am open to wherever student teaching takes me. I look forward to this class and the ability to explore so many aspects of art making and technology!

While we didn’t do this in class and its in your introduction I wanted to discuss this piece anyway because of how striking it is. I love the scratchy lines and energy and the contrast between the black and green shapes. It kind of feels like graffiti thats dripping in some places. I’d love to hear the background behind this piece and see you expand this work into a series.
